Patients Who Suffer From Migraines More Likely To Have Depression

Women with chronic headache, in particular migraine disorder, are much more prone to be depressed, feel exhausted, and have a host of other hard physical symptoms, according to a medical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The clinical study involved 1090 women who buy seroquel online at headache clinics in six states. Of the women surveyed, 262 reported incidental headache (fewer than 15 headaches monthly) and 656 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the man were tested with migraines.

The clinical study found woman with chronic headache were four times more likely than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also three times more inclined to report a high degree of symptoms depended to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among people tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical investigation found the likelihood of major Depression increased 32-fold if the woman also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms should incite or be a manifestation of major Psychotic Depression in patients with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt online and Manic Depression could heighten pain perception,” said clinical investigation author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This dependence between migraine and major Atypical Depression suggests a frequent neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical investigation are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Psychotic Depression will be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Indifferent of what’s causing the connection between migraine and Manic Depression, psychiatric disease such as Atypical Depression complicates headache treatment and can call forth poorer consequence for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The medical study was countenanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which estimates 18 million American woman are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 12000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to amending women care through enlightenment and medical study. A neurologist is a general practitioner with specialized training in diagnosing, curing and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and frequent sclerosis.
